Mort's Dream Jump: Build 3


While this is the first update on itch, it's actually the third tech demo update. The first came out 48 hours after I started working on the game, and the second came out about 24 hours ago.

Mort's Dream Jump is a new game I'm working on in my spare time, and perhaps unsurprising to anyone who knows me, it's a platformer. If you've played any of my games from the LOVE series, you'll know I like to make very tight and concise precision platformers where every pixel matters. This game completely bucks that trend with floaty jumps, wild movement mechanics, and a lot more colors on the screen. 

I'm taking everything I've learned from the last couple years of work on LOVE 3 and Deltarune and learning how to make more complicated mechanics that work well together, as well as using everything I've learned about making my workflow work for me. I don't have an estimate for how long the final game will be or how many levels it will be, because I'm rapidly prototyping new levels and mechanics as I think of them. Without the limitations I put on myself for the LOVE series, it's freeing to send Mort flying through stages with double jumps and cannon launches.

With this I'm working on three games currently, Deltarune, Mort's Dream Jump, and Mort Story. Deltarune's my 100% focus, Mort Story is my passion project RPG that will likely take a few years to make, and Mort's Dream Jump is a cozy project for me to stretch out and make something small and well within my skillset. Hopefully Mort's Dream Jump won't take more than a year to make, but I guess we'll see!

I do intend to look for funding in some form to hire some folks to help on the project (like for sprites, sounds, and tools), so keep an eye out for a Patreon in the probably not too distant future.
